The Child Center of NY in partnership with the NYPD and NYC Food Bank will host a public food distribution on February 9th, 2021 at 3pm. First Come First Served. 127 Pennsylvania Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207.

You do not need to apply for your child to receive meals. However, we do ask families to complete Family Income Inquiry Form, which helps schools receive money for their programs such as Title I funding which helps fund programs and initiatives that support our families, students and educational community.

This has been a year of new challenges and difficult choices, testing our collective strength and endurance as we have faced the unknown together. We have had to reinvent the building blocks of public education in the nation’s largest school system, from how to “go to class,” to grading policy, attendance, and everything in between.
Today I am writing with an update on another fundamental pillar of your child’s education: the high school application and enrollment process this year, which will open the week of January 18. I want to thank you for your patience as we have worked for months to talk to families and conduct careful analysis to develop a new high school admissions policy that meets this challenging moment. This new policy will better support your child’s learning journey, and that of their fellow 69,000 eighth graders, as we look ahead to Fall 2021. On Friday, December 18, 2020, This webinar series being held is geared at property owners of buildings that are 5000 to 25000 sq ft who face a variety of barriers to doing energy and water conservation work. We recognize that building decision makers are struggling with competing priorities such as their financial capacity and pending building repairs. These primary items of concern need to be addressed before pursuing energy projects. The path to retrofitting your building can also involve addressing these issues.

Beginning in Spring 2021, The Office of Equity and Access (OEA) will begin the Emerging Leaders for Social Justice Institute program. The institute will combine experiential and project-based learning to Empower, Engage, Educate, and Elevate students to address social justice and activism in their schools, community, and world. It will focus on academic excellence, team building activities, community and civic engagement, academic instruction, leadership development, community service, peer support, and cultural enrichment. Students will engage in large and small group activities, interact with role models and motivational speakers, discuss current issues affecting diverse communities, and practice problem solving using team approaches, ethics, and decision making while exploring the power of risk taking, communication, and facilitation.

On Thursday December 17, Brooklyn North HS in collaboration with Consuelo Kickbusch of the Family Leadership Institute, BKNHS presents the next session, "Coping Strategies for Success" for all parents. As part of our work with My Brother's and My Sister's Keeper, we are inviting all parents to engage in this even series to support college and career readiness expectations and success.
