Dear Advanced Placement (AP) Students and Families:

We know this is an incredibly challenging time and we commend you for your courage, determination, and commitment. The transition to remote learning has presented unique issues and has demanded a lot of flexibility on the part of our AP students and families citywide. The health and safety of our students, families and school community is our priority. On Monday, March 23, 2020, Boys and Girls High School will be transitioning to remote learning in response to COVID-19. We understand that this transition will have a significant impact on our scholars, and I want to assure you that as a school community, we have collaborated and designed academic and social-emotional structures to support them through this process during this challenging time. As we head into our first day of remote learning, Chancellor Richard Carranza prepared a letter for the families of all our New York City public school students.

In order to successfully fight COVID-19, our first responders, health care providers, transit workers, and other key personnel must be able to come to work. That is why we have created Regional Enrichment Centers (RECs)—places where the children of these front-line workers can be safely cared for while their parents continue to serve the city in this time of need. Staffed by DOE employees and community-based organization partners, the centers will provide children with three hot meals daily, remote learning time with their teachers, activities like art and music, and social and emotional support. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza announced the City will move towards a new Remote Learning Model for all school days until Spring Recess. Students will not report to school buildings for instruction during this time. School buildings are scheduled to reopen to students following Spring Recess on Monday, April 20, 2020.

Boys and Girls High School students in partnership with Good Shepherd Services produced a short film in honor of Black History Month

We’ve made it easier to sign up for a NYC Schools Account (NYCSA). Setting up a basic account will allow you to get emergency notifications from the DOE.

On Saturday, November 30th, the jersey of former Boys and Girls High School alumni, Dwayne Alonzo “Pearl” Washington was retired during the annual Kangaroo Basketball Classics.

The Kangaroos were able to close out the night with a win. After a thrilling main event, the Roos hopped on to victory. Khalil Brantley finished with 32pts and collected MVP honors. Jaheim Edwards took the Trevor Mickens Highest Scholastic Average Award home with a 94.6% average. Achievement First’s own, Nyah Sam received Sportsmanship honors.
